But, potatoes...

This afternoon I ran into one of our friends in the aldea as she returned from an exploratory expedition into La Antigua, not long after I had done. She duly reported that she had decided to head into town in order to discover if it was Antigua that was encerrada...or herself!

Like me she had found the streets of the casco pleasingly quiet and the Bodgegona open and largely patronised by groups of enthusiastic young 'gringos'.

It's all a bit like the pandemic, but without the sense of dread.

If you wanted to fill a bag full of tomatoes yourself, you'd be paying around Q10 per lb, but a pre-bagged set of 3lbs works out at around Q6.5 per lb. Compared to the market after several deluges, this is not yet 'end of days'.

But, potatoes.

All things told, we can now survive for a few weeks, if not the full 95 days of transition. We also have enough chiribiscos should the gas become scarce.

Let's hope pet food doesn't become an issue, as we have a particular vulnerability in that area.
