"Algún traidor hijo de la gran...hijue su madre," noted Guatemala's President Álvaro Colom sagely at a press conference this afternoon following the discovery of seven small telephone bugs and video recorders in the Casa Presidencial. Meanwhile, on Tuesday it was revealed that the cell-phone blocking system installed last year around Guatemala's more populous jails at a cost of around $3m is still not functioning.
Colom has also decided to increased the size of the army by 9000 soldiers - a significant augmentation as there are currently some 13,000 employed by that branch of the armed forces.
