Minimum wage
As of today the minimum daily wage in Guatemala will be $6.93 (Q52), compared to $6.26 (Q47) last year - a rise of 10.73%.
Workers in the maquilas (sweat-shops) will be denied this increase indefinitely however, after textile industry bosses successfully made their case for a moratorium based on the likelihood of diminished external demand in 2009.
