Apagón

A lightning strike in Escuintla took out the power in a large part of Guatemala for well over an hour yesterday evening. We have candles in strategic locations around the house, but some of our neighbours seemed to have little alternative but to pour out onto the street. The valley all around filled with dense pools of gloom. Only the Sindal kept chugging away.

Earlier we'd downed a few cocktails to celebrate our anniversary. V's recipe for the 'Dos Décadas' contains fresh lime and cucumber juice (and a few drops of tomato juice) plus a couple of measures of Don Ramón tequila. We watched a programme last week which listed the number of different local products seemingly named after that much loved character from El Chavo del Ocho.
