Apparently we now have something called the Yellow Bus Commission in the UK chaired by former education secretary, David Blunkett, who thinks their deployment as an antidote to the school run can help save the planet: "Even though the Americans have not paid a lot of attention to energy conservation and climate change, I think it actually does help," he told R5 Live.Hmm, many of America's school buses end up spending a busy retirement as multicoloured chicken buses in countries like Guatemala, where they don't give the impression of being at the front line of environmental friendliness! (I did look for a photo which showed the black smoke belching out the back!)
